Jeffrey W. Smith, MFT, AC



















Jeffrey is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) and has been practicing psychotherapy for over 17 years.   His provides therapeutic services to Individuals, Couples, Families and Groups.  He has offices in Sorrento Valley, Encinitas and Vista, California.  Jeffrey has developed a Strategic approach toward counseling that entails a thorough patient history, clinical observation, diagnostic brain imaging, the use of psychological technologies, such as the emWave Personal Stress Reliever, the MRS2000 Magnetic Resonance Stimulation system and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist patients in achieving their life goals.

Jeffrey also conducts training sessions and seminars for various groups, pastors and other’s interested in healthy life-long learning.  Concurrently, Jeffrey leads the Strategic Recovery Institute www.strategicrecoveryinstitute.com  which is a non-profit organization working to resolve the pandemic problem of chronic homelessness. 

He specializes in the area of Performance Enhancement strategies for athletes, business professionals, members of the U.S. Military and other performers.  Additionally he specialized in using Brain imaging technology in the treatment of Substance Abuse, High-Risk Behaviors, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Eating Disorders, Sexual Addiction, Men's Issues, Depression, Anxiety, Incest, Co-Dependency and Treating ADHD.  Additionally, Jeffrey enjoys working with couples by helping them build or rebuild connection, trust and intimacy. 

Jeffrey served his country with 21 years of honorable and dedicated service in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He received extensive training in hand-to-hand combat, survival skills and small arms tactics as an infantryman and scout sniper.  Following the completion of his undergraduate work and receiving a regular commission, he trained as a bombardier / navigator in the A-6 Intruder attack jet and later transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet – a modern day, fourth generation jet fighter.  Following his military service, he worked for the L-3 Communications Corporation as a senior consultant, working with senior military leaders from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.  In that capacity, he provided consultation to facilitators and modeling & simulation experts who created synthetic wargames for the major military commands in the South West region of the U.S.

Jeff holds an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science, and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University, in San Diego, California.  He has completed his doctoral course work in Clinical Psychology and is in the process of defending his dissertation with Ryokan College in Los Angles, California.  He has previously taught psychology courses at Park College, St. Louis, Missouri.
He is a member of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Marriage & Family Therapist), California Association of Marriage & Family Therapist, California Board of Psychology, California, Psychological Association, and the Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA).

Jeff is an avid fitness and nutrition expert and regularly engages in extreme sports activities for healthy recreation.  He has been married to his high-school sweet heart, Marie for 30 years.  They reside in Oceanside, California raising the youngest of their four children and spending quality time with their adult children.
